Robke's Country Inn, located at 427 Fort Salonga Road in
Northport, has been a neighborhood mainstay since opening its
doors in 1961. Originally owned by Ernest and Mary Lou Robke,
this very successful German bar and grill was famous for its
burgers and fingertip steaks.
In 1978, Louis Selvaggio from the Bronx took over as owner and
head chef. He kept the old name, but also added a taste of Italy
to the menu as Robke's evolved into a local trattoria. With
frequent trips to Arthur Avenue, Lou makes sure his customers are
served only the freshest fish, best quality meats, brick oven
breads and, of course, the finest pasta.
In addition to the many
house specials, there are signature dishes such as Penne alla Mia
(pasta with peas and prosciutto in a porcini mushroom sauce),
Snapper al Forno (lightly breaded and baked with fresh tomatoes,
garlic and oil), Veal Country Style (breaded and pan fried veal
cutlets with peppers, mushrooms and shallots) and, on every
Sunday, Rigatoni with meatballs and sausage in a braciola sauce.

Lou's standard for excellence demands that every dish is not only
delicious, but never pre-cooked.
Robke's has well earned its
reputation for quality food and service, but what makes this
restaurant outstanding is the casual, friendly atmosphere and
fairly priced menus featuring a wide variety of options.
From its
famous charcoal broiled burgers and fingertip steak sandwiches to
original pasta dishes and seafood specials, Robke's is one of the
best kept secrets on Long Island.
